TV Schedule: Friday, Oct. 3, 12:07 p.m. ET, TBS
Team Matchup: Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles
Pitching Matchup: Justin Verlander (Detroit), Wei-Yin Chen (Baltimore)
Well, the Detroit Tigers didn’t exactly have their best outing in the first game of the ALDS. When the contest was over, the scoreboard read 12-3 in the Baltimore Orioles’ favor.
With that said, Baltimore didn’t do most of its damage until the eighth inning, where it scored eight runs to seal the deal.
This time around, I am sure Detroit fans would love to see their team getting the lead first, instead of trailing 2-0 heading into the second inning. They would probably also love to see their team not giving up a boat load of runs near the end of the game.
A five-game series goes very fast and is over before you know it, so the Tigers’ stars will have to get going early and often in Game 2. That is where Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez come in, who both hit home runs in Game 1.
It would help if Justin Verlander got into a rhythm right away, but opposing pitcher Wei-Yin Chen will be looking to do the same.
It will be interesting to see if Nelson Cruz can continue crushing the ball like he has been doing all season. Cruz led MLB in home runs this year and also hit one out in Game 1.
In the end, although Verlander didn’t have his best regular season ever, I am giving him the nod in this pitching duel, which will lead to his team capturing the victory.
