Over the last four years there have only been two teams that have represented the National League in the World Series. You guessed it, the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. You may not like them, but man, are they good in October.
Both familiar playoff teams punched their tickets to the NLCS on Tuesday in four games. The Giants have now won seven straight postseason series, while the Cardinals will be making their fourth straight trip to the NLCS. Both accomplishments are pretty remarkable when you consider the crazy, unpredictable nature of baseball.
For the baseball fans who were looking for a fresh NLCS — sorry. The 2014 version will feel similar to those of the past four seasons. There’s just no way around it.
I guess you could boycott SF-STL and shift all your focus to the fresh-feeling ALCS. But you could also embrace that the Cardinals and Giants are just really, really, really, good at baseball.
You may even hate the teams playing in the NLCS, but you have to respect that they’re good at their jobs. Plus, either way, the winner of Giants/Cards will face a fresh team in the World Series. You can root against them when you jump on the Royals’ or Orioles’ bandwagon. Problem solved.
For now, let’s all tip our caps to two great teams and fan bases. It doesn’t get any better than the loyal fans in the STL, and AT&T Park is always rocking this time of year. You can shake your head, but the Giants and Cardinals are ready to put on another October baseball clinic in the National League Championship Series. Enjoy it.
