5 Landing Spots For Adam LaRoche

It is pretty clear Adam LaRoche has played his final game as part of the Washington Nationals organization. While he has stated numerous times he would like to stay, there just won't be room for him. He has a mutual option the Nationals will not elect to take. Ryan Zimmerman has arthritis in his shoulder and should throw as little as possible. He will play first base from now on. LaRoche will play on one of these five teams.

The San Diego Padres need a first baseman. They could use the leadership qualities that come with LaRoche. They saw how the culture changed once he arrived in Washington. They will look to gain the same kind of change if he were to join that clubhouse.

The Philadelphia Phillies do not want Ryan Howard anymore. He was not good last season. If they are able to somehow get rid of his contract, they may want to give LaRoche a shot in the city of brotherly love.

With the uncertainty that surrounds slugger Chris Davis, the Baltimore Orioles may need to look at a new first baseman. Steve Pearce could use his recent success to get a gig somewhere else around the league. LaRoche could be used as a backup plan if Buck Showalter sees a similar season out of Davis.

The Pittsburgh Pirates always seem to be so close to getting over the hump of being a true contender. LaRoche would be a perfect fit for them. They have had a turnstile of first basemen over the past couple of years, but have still made the playoffs in two straight. Having someone reliable at first would be ideal for their future.

It became clear this year that Justin Smoak just didn't have what it takes to be a viable starter for the Seattle Mariners. They have shown they are willing to spend money to be competitive. Now they have the chance to bring in a first baseman that can contribute consistent production.
