San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals – World Series Game 6 (SF leads 3-2)
Game Time, TV: Tuesday, October 28th – 8:00 PM ET on FOX
Starting Pitchers: Jake Peavy (1-1, 3.68 ERA) vs. Yordano Ventura (0-0, 4.42 ERA)
It’s crunch time in the 2014 Fall Classic. Down 3-2, the Royals will head back to KC and turn to rookie Yordano Ventura. Game 6 simply amounts to the biggest game of the 23-year old’s life.
On the Giants’ side of things, Jake Peavy will take the mound in what you could also say is the biggest start of his lengthy MLB career. It’s not every day you get to pitch in the potential clinching game of the World Series.
San Francisco will be hoping to get more out of Peavy than usual on Tuesday night. The usual for the 33-year old RHP is exactly 5 2/3 innings, the highest number of innings he’s ever pitched in a playoff game. If he notches a new postseason career-high, it will likely mean good things for the Giants.
A fast start is imperative for the Royals in Game 6. They cannot afford to get down early and let their fans be taken out of the equation. All the cards are on the table at this point, and the folks inside Kauffman Stadium need to play their part for the Royals to win.
It’s also worth noting that odds on favorite to win the WS MVP, Madison Bumgarner, is likely done moving forward. Unless he makes a relief appearance, the dominate LHP will not factor in to the rest of the series.
So, can the rookie pitch his team to Game 7? Or will the man opposite him, a pitcher 10 years his elder, have the last laugh as the Giants win their third title in five years?
Prediction: One more time this postseason, KC channels some October magic. The Royals force a decisive Game 7 via an ‘Ace’ Ventura win.
