Game 6 of the World Series could not have gone much worse for the San Francisco Giants. It was a game that basically ended before it really started. Jake Peavy, who’s traditionally been not that great in the postseason, was shelled and only recorded four outs. Long story short, Game 6 quickly became a ‘try again tomorrow night’ situation for San Francisco. But when you consider that the Giants will have Madison Bumgarner available on Wednesday night, the normal pressure of a do-or-die game just doesn’t seem to apply.
Tim Hudson is slated to start Game 7. However, a call to the pen for Bumgarner is very likely if the veteran starts to lose control of the WS finale.
Wednesday would be Bumgarner’s normal bullpen session day, so putting him out there in the biggest game of the season isn’t the least bit crazy. Chances to a secure a dynasty only come around every so often, and not putting your best players on the diamond would just be plain silly.
If Bruce Bochy goes to Bumgarner and he somehow gets lit up — how could Giants fans even be mad? It’s a situation where you play your best hand, and if you lose, at least you go down swinging. Even a 50 percent MadBum is better than most MLB pitchers right now.
Madison Bumgarner is on a postseason run for the ages. He’s the MVP of the World Series at this point. It’s only right that he has a say in the outcome of the finale.
The only real question — how many innings will he pitch?
