San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals – World Series Game 7
Game Time, TV: Wednesday, October 29th – 8:00 PM ET on FOX
Starting Pitchers: Tim Hudson (0-1, 3.72 ERA) vs. Jeremy Guthrie (1-0, 2.70 ERA)
Break out the cliches, it’s time for a Game 7. Winner takes all, loser goes home, for all the marbles, do or die — however you want to describe it, there’s just nothing like a true World Series finale.
Everything is indeed on the table in a Game 7. For the Giants, that means turning to Madison Bumgarner on two-days rest. Unless Tim Hudson pitches the game of his life, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll see the current ace of aces on Wednesday night. It’s really just a matter of how many innings he’ll throw.
For the Royals, it’s the same old story. They’ve got to play all-around good baseball just like they’ve done all postseason, and that begins with starter Jeremy Guthrie. If the 35-year old comes out flat, Ned Yost cannot wait around to make a call to the pen. The last thing KC needs is a slow start to take its home crowd out of the game. All hands on deck applies to those in attendance at Kauffman Stadium too.
In an era where statistics play a larger role than ever, you can throw most of them out the window in Game 7. Sure, the managers will still need to play the odds in certain situations, but Game 7s are really about making more plays than your opponent. Specifically, at the times when big plays are needed most.
It really all boils down to who’s more clutch. However, there’s an interesting factoid that you’ll hear mentioned more than once before first pitch on Wednesday night — no road team has won a WS Game 7 since 1979.
Prediction: After 29 long years, the Kansas City Royals once again reach the mountain top. They’ll do it with top-shelf defense, timely hitting and their lights out bullpen. KC wins Game 7, 4-2.
