Top 5 Landing Spots For Colby Rasmus In 2015

After coming to the Toronto Blue Jays in a blockbuster trade during the summer of 2011, Colby Rasmus now appears to be headed for yet another new home. In his three-and-a-half-year run in Toronto, Rasmus was quite inconsistent. Sure, he showed 20-home run pop and posted a 4.8 fWAR in 2013, but overall he batted .234 and struck out at an alarming rate. Here are five teams that may be interested in employing the 28-year-old center fielder in 2015.

The Seattle Mariners are seemingly set in center field as Austin Jackson is under contract through 2015, but the team is reportedly going to get serious about adding another bat this winter. Players such as Victor Martinez and Adam LaRoche have been rumored to be on their wish list, and one could see them targeting Rasmus as well. The M's could DH Rasmus or stick him in right or left, even though he has minimal experience playing the corners.

The youthful Chicago Cubs seem to be open to improving their outfield, leaving some to speculate that talented veterans such as Torii Hunter or Jonny Gomes would be good fits for the club. They may also want to take a look at Rasmus. As it stands right now, Arismendy Alcantara appears poised to make a strong run at being the Cubs' center fielder in 2015, but he batted a lowly .205 in 2014. Rasmus may provide an upgrade.

The Chicago White Sox are reportedly looking for a left-handed bat to help balance their lineup that will feature right-handed sluggers such as Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia. In some ways, signing Rasmus would be like bringing in another Adam Dunn with a lower OBP, but he may be a nice fit for the South Siders nevertheless. U.S. Cellular Field may be the perfect fit for the power-hitting Rasmus as well.

2. Texas Rangers

Heading into the 2015 season, there may be a sizable void for the Texas Rangers to fill in their outfield as they have declined Alex Rios' option. The Rangers have been rumored to have interest in Cuban outfielder Yasmani Tomas, and they could certainly do worse than Rasmus for a backup plan. Just imagine if the Rangers sign Rasmus and both he and Prince Fielder have comeback seasons next year.

Rasmus is far from an ideal fit for the Detroit Tigers, but he still fits the bill for two of their biggest needs: a center fielder and a left-handed bat. The simple fact that the market for outfielders is so thin may strengthen the Tigers' interest in Rasmus as well. While some Tigers fans seem to be less than thrilled about the prospect of Rasmus becoming a Tiger, he could turn out to be a relatively low-risk, high-reward addition to the team.
