Hanley Ramirez Is Perfect Fit With Los Angeles Dodgers
There has been a good deal of talk about the big names pitchers hitting the market this offseason, but there are a handful of reliable sticks out there as well. One of the most sought after sticks this winter will certainly be veteran shortstop Hanley Ramirez.
Ramirez spent the past two and half seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has spent a good deal of time on the disabled list with countless injures, but he has still had an impact offensively when he was healthy. He posted a .283/.369/.448 slash line in 128 games last season. He slugged 13 home runs and his bat started to come alive towards the end of the season.
With free agency looming, though, where could Ramirez end up?
Earlier this week, the Dodgers made a qualifying offer to Hanley. The offer was an one-year deal worth $15.3 million and the shortstop has a week to expect or reject the offer. Los Angeles would like to ink a deal before letting Ramirez hit free agency, but the fact that he wants a longer contract may impact his decision.
Of all the possible scenarios, though, Hanley’s best bet would be to stay in LA. He is looking for a multi-year deal and has already stated that he wants to finish his career with the Dodgers. There are some other rumors that Hanley could potentially sign with the New York Mets or even the New York Yankees, but the Dodgers would be the best bet for Han-Ram. He knows the organization already, and even though he likely won’t receive the same contract he would somewhere else, the Dodgers give him the best shot at winning right now.
It already appears to be in the works, and I don’t think it will be much longer until it Hanley takes an offer to remain with the Dodgers.
