After reports were all over the place that the Chicago Cubs were the frontrunners for free agent catcher Russell Martin, it appears the Toronto Blue Jays have played a trump card. That is, they offered Martin more money.

The exact details of Martin’s contract are still unknown, but this clearly seems like a case of the highest bidder winning. Toronto was definitely on the map to land Martin, but most had him penciled in as a Cub.
Regardless, the top FA catcher is now taking his talents up north to join a Blue Jays team that figures to contend for the AL East title in 2015.
