In an offseason in which everything has been going right for the Chicago Cubs, they got a piece of bad news on Saturday, In connection with a nightclub shooting in the Dominican Republic, star shortstop Starlin Castro was detained for questioning, and his house was also raided.

Although his agent, contrary to police spokesperson, claims Castro voluntarily went to police for questioning to clear his name, he also went on to say that he believes Castro is being targeted in his home country of the Dominican Republic since signing his current $60 million deal. Castro has either been at the wrong place at the wrong time a lot, or he’s asking for trouble.

Regardless, his agent suggests he needs to get out of the Dominican Republic, and reports indicate that the Cubs agree. If Castro doesn’t get out of the country, he could continue to be involved in incidents like this and may end up be the one who tragically catches a stray bullet. Rather than risk that happening, the star should spend most of his time in the states.

At 25 years old, Castro has plenty of time to mature, but he needs to stop putting himself in these situations. As one of the cornerstones of an up-and-coming franchise, he needs to stay in the U.S. so not to be continually involved in situations like this, whether he is truly being targeted or not.

If he can’t do that, it could seriously delay any progress the Cubs have set themselves up for on the field over the past few months.
