Despite winning four straight, the Cincinnati Reds are believed to be a seller at the trade deadline. As a small-market team, they have to find solutions to their problems. Here are five options.

Jonny Gomes (and his infamous Mohawk) was a fan favorite during his three years in Cincinnati. What made it even better was he was pretty productive too, hitting .254 with 49 home runs and driving in 168 runs. He could come in and play left field during Byrd’s absence and when Byrd returns could serve as a good bench player.

Holt, like LeMahieu, is an on-base machine who can hit for average as well. Cincinnati could use having multiple players who can both get on base and hit for average besides Joey Votto. Holt could fill that need for a relatively cheap price.

Gattis can help tremendously as he can play both catcher and left field. While his average is low, he still has shown the ability to produce as he has driven in 38 runs.

Reds need help in the bullpen. While they insist on going forward with a “youth movement,” they still need to have a veteran presence that has plenty of proven success.

DJ LeMahieu can serve as the lead-off hitter the Reds need. While he is not the person you look to for power, he is the epitome of an “on-base” guy as he boasts an on-base percentage of .397.
