With so many ups and downs, it’s been tough to summarize the season the New York Mets have had thus far in 2015. The one thing we can say for sure is that it hasn’t been boring, with a constant stream of surprises and controversies keeping things interesting. Here is a look at the Mets’ five biggest surprises at this point in the 2015 season.

5. Michael Cuddyer's Ineptness

Surely the Mets weren't expecting Cuddyer to win a batting title this year the way he did in 2013, but their big offseason acquisition has fallen well short of even modest expectations. It's a little unfair to put so much on his shoulders after all the injuries the Mets have suffered, but surely New York was expecting a little better than the .252 average and .683 OPS Cuddyer is currently running.

Expectations were high for the Mets coming into the season, but even the most optimistic fans were surprised when the team won 11 in a row and jumped out to a sizable lead in the NL East. Of course, the Mets have all but negated that win streak with their recent seven-game skid, as well as their general inconsistency since the win streak ended, but those things are far less surprising.

For the past several years, the Mets have been a fine road team but struggled to win at home. This year, they've surprised everyone by turning that around completely. Thus far in 2015, the Mets have surprised their fans by putting together a great home record by being 15 games over .500 at Citi Field. Of course, they're 15 games under .500 on the road, something few saw coming based on the last few years.

The Mets' bullpen looks nothing like we thought it would. Jenrry Mejia is suspended, Bobby Parnell was slow to come back from Tommy John and the likes of Vic Black, Josh Edgin, Jerry Blevins and a slew of others have suffered injuries. But despite all those absences, the Mets have one of the best bullpens in baseball, due in large part to the pitching of Jeurys Familia and key contributions from some unexpected sources.

1. David Wright's Health Issues

Mets fans have seen Wright suffer injuries before, but everyone was shocked to hear he diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a condition he'll have the rest of his career and the rest of his life. Wright's future is now in a state of complete uncertainty, and the loss of the Mets captain for an indefinite period of time has shocked everyone. It's also thrown a huge wrench in New York's plans to become legitimate contenders in 2015.

Mets' Yoenis Cespedes Clobbers Fan After Dive For Foul Ball

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes recklessly went after a foul ball against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, and ended up nearly injuring himself and every fan he came in contact with in the stands. I get it: Cespedes is often criticized for not hustling enough. However, he must be more careful in the future.

Bartolo Colon Comically Executes Over-The-Shoulder Catch

When Bartolo Colon does something other than throwing a pitch on the baseball field, he tends to produce some stellar highlights. This was the case against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, as Colon made an epic over-the-shoulder catch in a way that only he can.

There's probably no classification for 95 mph pitches with that kind of movement, so let's just call it the Thor-level filth.
