5 MLB Teams Destined To Fall Short In 2015 MLB Playoff Race

5 MLB Teams Destined To Fall Short In 2015 MLB Playoff Race

With just around a month left in the MLB season, there will be a lot of pressure rising. The playoffs are nearing and there really are a total of three teams that are truly guaranteed to make the playoffs. That said, with the recently-new two wild card teams put into the place and the overall little room for error in the division, these five teams could be left watching the playoffs from their couches in October.

At the beginning of the season, no one expected the Minnesota Twins to be playing as well as they are. However, with all of the young talent they have and the superb manager they have in Paul Molitor, the Twins are proving everyone wrong. The Twins are winners of three straight, and with studs like Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, and Trevor Plouffe, they could pull off some magic. However, their pitching will keep them out of the playoffs.

Granted, it's hard to bet against Buck Showalter, who time and time again proves that he is one of the best managers in baseball even if his team isn't the most talented one. Nevertheless, the Baltimore Orioles do not have the same spark as they did just a year ago. That said, in a tough wild card race, the reality is that the Orioles will be on the outside looking in.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place, I have more faith in the San Francisco Giants, who are behind by only a game and a half. That said, with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs stealing the show in the wild card, it's basically division or bust for the Dodgers. The Giants have more postseason experience and I expect Bruce Bochy and company to figure it out before the end of the season.

2. Los Angeles Angels

It's extremely hard to bet against the best player in baseball and arguably the hottest power-hitting player in baseball as well. However, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols simply cannot carry this team by themselves. Erick Aybar and Kole Calhoun are playing well, but the Angels need more help from both their lineup and more consistency from their rotation. The Angels are another team that will likely be on the outside looking in during October.

A preseason pick to win it all, the Washington Nationals have been an absolute failure in 2015. A year ago, Matt Williams was seen as the favorite to win the NL Manager of the Year Award. He would go on to win the award, however, he's now on the hot seat in DC. Down five games in the NL East, there is still time to work themselves back in the picture, as the New York Mets are the Mets, but it looks as if time has run out.
