Boston Red Sox's Rich Hill Deserves A Chance Somewhere Next Year

The Boston Red Sox rotation has been pretty much a state of flux almost all season. It has only been over the last couple of months that they have pitched with any sort of consistency. Another problem is that there have been a number of injuries to some key starting pitchers. These injuries have opened up the door for Rich Hill to show that he still has an arm left.

It’s a great story. Earlier this season, he was in the Independent League trying to reinvent himself as a starting pitcher and now he has been absolutely dominant in his two starts with the Red Sox. The only reason he is even here at all is because Boston decided to do a six-man rotation. Who would have thought that he would turn into the second coming of Pedro Martinez?

Now let’s be realistic. Once Boston goes out and gets someone at the top of the rotation, there just won’t be a place for Hill. At best, I could see him maybe as their fifth starter and if I had a choice between Hill and Wade Miley for that spot, I’m taking Miley everytime. He’s younger, an absolute horse in the rotation and you know about what to expect from him every fifth day.

However, Hill has shown that he belongs in someone’s rotation to start 2016. He has certainly earned that opportunity. Perhaps even throw him in a trade and maybe get someone useful back. I just sense he won’t be here long. It’s good to see him back in the game.
