John Farrell's Return To Manage Boston Red Sox Could End Poorly

After months of speculation and wondering what was going to happen regarding Boston Red Sox manager, John Farrell and his future with the team, we now finally have an answer. Farrell, health permitting will be returning to the dugout next season.

I have some mixed thoughts about this. I like Farrell and I think he is a decent manager and it is awful what he has been going through healthwise this season. However, other than the World Series Championship in 2013, he has managed this team to nothing but last-place finishes. Red Sox Nation seems to be getting angrier and angrier with these awful performances.

It just seems to be that perhaps Farrell just isn’t the guy to be leading this team anymore. They looked lackadasical and were almost impossible to watch for most of the season. Now there might not be a specific reason for it, but the Red Sox appeared almost like a different team when Torey Lovullo was managing. I just wonder that if it is time for a different voice to be in the dugout.

The other concern is that this reminds me of 2012. Remember that awful year? That was when new GM Ben Cherington was pretty much forced to hire Bobby Valentine as his manager. That went well.

Now it’s Dave Dombrowski who can’t select  his own guy, and is basically stuck with a manager who he has no history at all with.

Maybe this will work out next season. But if it doesn’t, there might be a lot of answering to do on Yawkey Way.
