5 Bargain Starting Pitchers New York Yankees Should Consider Signing By Andrew Frosceno PREV NEXT 5 Bargain Starting Pitchers New York Yankees Should Consider Signing Andy Marlin USA TODAY Sports Images The New York Yankees may have a pretty set in stone rotation from afar, but in reality they have plenty of question marks. From Masahiro Tanaka's elbow to Nathan Eovalidi's late season arm injury to Michael Pineda's arm issues, the Yankees have questions. C.C. Sabathia with his rapid decline and a dismal Ivan Nova also can't be relied on. With reluctance to spend big, they could target these bargains for insurance. 5. Alfredo Simon Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports Images 5. Alfredo Simon Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports Images Simon ended up with a pretty bad 2015 for the Tigers. He ended up 13-12 with a 5.05 ERA. However, it was revealed he was dealing with a knee injury all season, which could have led to his worse than usual numbers. His career ERA is 4.17 and he could serve as a decent No. 5 starter and even a bullpen option. 4. Chris Young Pool Photo-USA TODAY Sports 4. Chris Young Pool Photo-USA TODAY Sports Images Bouncing between the bullpen and rotation for the Royals last season, Young ended up 11-6 with a 3.06 ERA. He was particularly big for them in the World Series. He isn't flashy, but he is a solid vet who knows how to pitch. He could be a nice reliable option for the Yanks. Plus, with the outfielder Chris Young now with the Red Sox, the Yankees have room for another Chris Young. 3. Cliff Lee Kim Klement USA TODAY Sports Images 3. Cliff Lee Kim Klement USA TODAY Sports Images Lee announced this week that he does intend to try to pitch in 2016. After missing all of 2015, Lee would be an extreme low-risk high-reward pickup. He would come really cheap as probably a minor league deal and could have motivation to prove he can still pitch. It's a classic Brian Cashman move. 2. Tim Lincecum Andy Marlin USA TODAY Sports Images 2.Tim Lincecum Andy Marlin USA TODAY Sports Images Lincecum is coming off of hip surgery and plans to throw a showcase in January. He went 7-4 with a 4.13 ERA last year in his time on the field. He could still have some good years left in him and if he does well at his showcase he should still come fairly cheap with his injury concerns. It's worth a look for the Yanks. 1. Doug Fister Eric Hartline USA TODAY Sports Images 1. Doug Fister Eric Hartline USA TODAY Sports Images Fister had a miserable 2015 that saw him get demoted to the bullpen in Washington. However, his track record shows he is a solid pitcher who might have just had a down year. At 31, Fister still could regain his form and be more than just a No. 5 starter. If I were the Yankees, that is one player I would certainly call for cheap pitching help.
