Since signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Cuba in October 2013, with the idea he would fill a middle infield spot, Alex Guerrero has been a disappointment over the last two seasons. The now 29-year-old spent most of the 2014 season with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, mostly at second base (51 games-48 starts), but he only played left field in the big leagues (three games) and Guerrero also saw time at third base (18 starts) last season.
In 117 MLB games, Guerrero has started 45 games in the field (27 in left field in 2015). Over 230 plate appearances in 2015 he showed power potential with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs, but without a clear spot for him in the lineup, the Dodgers are sure to struggle to tap into that offensive production.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported the Dodgers are looking to trade Guerrero, while suggesting him as a fit for an American League team.

Guerrero is due to make $5 million in each of the next two seasons, so that could turn some teams off and limit what the Dodgers can get in a trade. There’s also the question of upside potential at a theoretical post-peak age, but Guerrero can be a productive designated hitter/utility man in the American League. The Dodgers clearly don’t have that kind of role available, due in part to being a National League team, so a trade would be beneficial to all involved.
