The New York Yankees entered this season with high expectations after winning the No. 1 wild card spot in the American League last season and adding Aroldis Chapman and Starlin Castro to an already loaded roster. Unfortunately, the results haven’t been positive on the field as the team sits with the third-worst record in MLB at 9-17 entering Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Despite having a $228 million payroll for 2016, the Yankees’ offense ranks 29th in the league in runs scored, 27th in batting average and 24th in on-base percentage. The pitching staff hasn’t been much better as they sit 22nd in baseball with a 4.39 ERA.
The easy solution to fixing the team would be to fire Joe Girardi who has never really taken the Yankees where they want to be. With the roster that he’s had in years past, Girardi should’ve led the organization to more than one World Series in the nine years he’s been manager.
At the same time, the Yankees are in really bad shape because of the roster decisions Brian Cashman has made. The organization has very few prospects to build on for the future and most of their payroll is owed to players who are past their prime.
The window has closed on this Yankees team doing anything significant and it’s time to finally fire Cashman and Girardi.
