5 Most Disappointing Players For Detroit Tigers Through June 2016

So far in 2016, the Detroit Tigers‘ season has been filled with quite a few ups and downs, meaning it shouldn’t come as too much of surprise that they are currently tied for third place in the AL Central with a mediocre .500 record of 38-38. There have certainly been some positives, but there have also been quite a few negatives. On that note, here are the five most disappointing players for the Tigers so far in 2016.

Justin Upton — Although he has begun showing signs of life in June, Justin Upton went through a major slump over the first two months of the season. He is still only hitting .231 with eight homers and a .670 OPS.

Mike Pelfrey — Signed to a reported two-year, $16 million deal over the offseason, Mike Pelfrey is currently 1-7 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP. No one was expecting him to be lights out, but he certainly needs to be better than he has been.

Anibal Sanchez — After a rough season last year, Anibal Sanchez's struggles have continued into 2016. Although he did look sharp in relief earlier this month, Sanchez still has a bloated 6.06 ERA through 18 games (12 starts).

Mike Aviles — Signed to a reported one-year, $2 million deal, utility man Mike Aviles is currently hitting only .222 with one homer and a -0.6 fWAR. Aviles hasn't had an OPS+ over 100 since 2010, so perhaps his lack of production shouldn't be a surprise.

Mark Lowe — Signed to a reported two-year, $11 million deal over the offseason, it was hoped that Mark Lowe would give the Tigers a solid setup man. So far, however, he has posted a 10.13 ERA over 24 innings.
