Veteran southpaw Jon Lester spent his first nine MLB seasons in the American League with the Boston Red Sox and briefly the Oakland Athletics, which means he only batted around six or seven times during interleague play each year.
Heading into his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, Lester was hitting just .105 with a measly three RBI in 45 plate appearances this season, and had yet to finally smash his first career dinger despite getting a solid amount of at bats (for a pitcher) since joining the Chicago Cubs in 2015.
However, in the bottom of the third inning, Lester, 33, finally did the unthinkable and clobbered an opposite-field home run to the delight of the Wrigley Field faithful.
