You see it a lot from younger kids playing baseball and forgetting what state the game is in, but rarely do MLB players lose track of the outs in an inning as egregiously as the Detroit Tigers did on Friday night.
Here you’ll see it – a Justin Verlander strikeout that ends the inning prompts catcher James McCann to begin throwing the ball around the infield as he would after any out other than the third.
When everyone loses track of the inning. ?
Verlander is clearly confused, as he had started trotting toward the dugout initially until McCann threw the ball to third base instead of the mound.
Just goes to show you that a team selling at the deadline and giving up on the playoffs puts it on autopilot sometimes.
