If you are a MMA fan and you are not athletic, Joe Silva, the UFC’s matchmaker, has your dream job.
Silva does a great job, in my opinion, at creating competitive matches; but I have some suggestions.
If I was given complete control over UFC 155, for which no fights have been scheduled yet, here’s what I would do for the pay per view card.
Co-Main Events
Silva vs Weidman–
Anytime Anderson Silva fights, it’s a spectacle.
He’s nearing retirement. So every fight is precious. Everyone wants to know if he can continue with the standard that he has set for himself.
Chris Weidman is the new phenom. He was impressive in defeating Mark Munoz. Dana White said if he had to give Silva a fight today, it would be Weidman. It may be too early to fight Silva again but selfishly, I want to see him in the Octagon again.
Sonnen vs Evans–
Rashad Evans is already mulling a move down to middleweight while Chael Sonnen is contemplating a move up to light heavyweight. There is a meeting of the minds somewhere.
With both Evans and Sonnen’s mouth moving the fight will definitely receive intrigue from fans and media alike. It will, quite possibly, be the most hyped non-title fight of all-time. Not to mention it’s a battle between two great fighters.
Main Card
Maynard vs Pettis-
This fight will settle a lot at 155lbs. Nate Diaz is the clear cut next in line, according to Dana White. But this could become the next number one contender match. Both are coming off of victories against top level fighters.
Many have high hopes for Anthony Pettis’s talent. Let’s see him against Grey Maynard.
Belcher vs Belfort-
Alan Belcher has been impressive in his past few fights and warrants a step up in talent. However, you should be careful what you wish for. Vitor Belfort is a top end middleweight who wants to get back into the title mix. An impressive win against Belcher should put him back into the discussion.
Hunt vs Johnson-
Mark Hunt is on a three fight win streak. Lavar Johnson was on a good run before being submitted by Stefan Struve. Hunt won’t take Johnson to the ground.
Obviously, this fight will not last three rounds. Someone will get knocked out. I’m just not sure which fighter will be left on the canvass. I just know I would watch.
