Jon Jones Signs Global, Multi-Year Endorsement Deal With Nike
Jon Jones solidified himself as a global athlete by inking a deal with Nike.
According to mmafighting.com, “The UFC light heavyweight champion has signed a sweeping, worldwide sponsorship deal with sports apparel giant Nike.”
Jones will be decked out in Nike gear for the foreseeable future. The two sides have agreed to a multi-year deal.
The light heavyweight champion will wear Nike during his title bout against Dan Henderson at UFC 151.
It is a new level of out of the Octagon success. It should place Jones in the same strata as NFL and NBA players.
This is great news for MMA fighters. The salaries of fighters are growing as the sport grows. MMA is already the third most popular sport in the world. There is still unlimited room for growth, especially in the US. MMA is still relatively new. The right groups of people are watching. Their demographics are conducive to greater ad revenue. The audience is mostly young males. And MMA is a spot that can turn over a new generation to combat sports.
Boxing is dying. The UFC looks to fill that void and they can.
Jones is pushing MMA to boundaries they have never seen before. In five years he may be as recognizable as Tiger Woods. He could be a household name. His picture could be plastered over billboards and in commercials.
Urijah Faber said Jones could be MMA’s Michael Jordan, if he continues on this track, it’s certainly possible.
