The news surrounding the cancelled UFC 151 event continues. For those of you who have missed the news, here is a quick re-cap. Jon Jones was scheduled to fight Dan henderson at UFC 151, Henderson was forced to pull out of the fight with a knee injury.UFC President Dana White then offered the fight to Lyoto Machida, in which he declined. Then the fight was offered to Chael Sonnen, Sonnen agreed to fight Jones on just 8 days notice but the champion declined the offer. Eventually forcing the UFC to cancel a pay per view event for the first time in the company’s history.
Since then a new fight for Jon Jones has been announced. Jones will be fighting Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 152,which takes place in Toronto on September 22nd.
Back to the topic though. The latest news that has surfaced, is that Anderson Silva reportedly offered to fight a light-heavyweight contender to save the card. This was reported by Ariel Helwani. The news was to late for the UFC to do anything with, Dana White had already announced that the event was cancelled.
Had Dana White waited a little bit longer, the event could be still on and it would probably be just as good as the original fight that was scheduled. The bottom line is that this was by far the craziest week in UFC history. It wasn’t good attention either. Many fans and fighters are disappointed in the decisions that the UFC and champion Jon Jones have made.
