A compelling middleweight bout is expected to go down in Brazil when Vitor Belfort takes on Luke Rockhold. The winner of this fight puts their name in the mix at challenging Anderson Silva, who is currently without an opponent.
Vitor is coming off an emphatic head kick KO over Michael Bisping, which was one of Belfort’s most impressive finishers inside the octagon. Even though Belfort has already challenged Silva for the middleweight championship, he very well could do it again with a win over Luke Rockhold.
Belfort has done a lot since rejoining the UFC. He challenged Anderson Silva and Jon Jones in championship bouts, and he is always dangerous as he possess some of the fastest hands and strongest punches in any UFC weight class.
Rockhold is the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, and has beat some quality opponents in his fighting tenure. Some of his notable victories are over Tim Kennedy, Keith Jardine and Ronaldo Souza. Training out of American Kickboxing Academy, Luke Rockhold possesses some dynamic kicks and punches. His grappling is also very competent, having over six submissions in eleven of his fights.
Both of these fighters have built up some momentum, and it will be interesting to see how well Rockhold transitions to the UFC. This will be his biggest opponent to date, and he will certainly need to look sharp as Belfort can end the fight with one punch. If Rockhold is able to get the win, he is more than likely next for Anderson Silva. For Belfort, a win over Rockhold keeps his momentum going and certainly makes him a top contender.
