UFC 159 is a wrap, which featured some compelling fights from top to bottom. In the main event, Jon Jones took on Chael Sonnen for the light heavyweight championship of the world. Jones dominated Sonnen in the first round, and he would get the finish by way of viscous ground and pound. It was a sterling performance from Jones, and he proved to be the superior wrestler tonight.
Now, many are surely clamoring to see an Anderson Silva super fight, which would be one of the biggest fights in MMA history. At the UFC 159 post-fight press conference, Dana White told the media that Silva called him on the phone, saying he wanted the fight. So which fight is this in regards to? When asked, White responded with either GSP or Jones. It appears a super-fight is certainly gaining steam. All Silva has to do is get past Chris Weidman, which will certainly be a tough task.
If Silva is able to defeat Weidman, then a Pierre or Bones bout will be entertaining in many regards. All of these fighters have widely been considered the best MMA fighters for years now. Stylistically, Silva would be the best striker that Jones has ever faced. Also, Silva has a mystique unlike any other fighter in the UFC, and he has an undefeated record to show it inside the octagon.
However, Jones would arguably be the best wrestler that Silva has ever faced, and Jones athleticism and ability to use his reach would certainly give Silva problems. Either way, it would be an entertaining super-fight that is hopefully booked sooner rather than later.
