A heavyweight bout takes place at UFC 165 between Matt Mitrione vs. Brendan Schaub. Both of these heavyweights have powerful hands, so it could end quickly and violently. The winner of this bout moves up the heavyweight rankings, where Cain Velasquez currently sits at the top. Both Schaub and Mitrione have been on TUF, so it will be interesting to see who can get their career back on track.
Mitrione comes into this bout off an impressive KO victory over Phil De Fries, which brought his record to 6-2. Previously a professional football player, Mitrione has been able to use his athleticism quite well in his fighting career. The transition from the NFL to MMA seems to be going great for him, and it will be interesting to see if he can prevail against Schaub in hopes of furthering his fighting career.
Schaub comes into this fight off a unanimous decision win over Lavar Johnson. In the bout, Schaub showcased his superior wrestling and athleticism. It was a much-needed win as his previous two fights ended with a KO loss. Just like Mitrione, Schaub also played professional football, and he has made a successful jump into MMA. Training out of Team Jackson, Schaub will look to build some momentum again with a win over Mitrione.
Both of these fighters have knockout power and they will be looking to exchange blows early in the bout. Schaub may hold the wrestling advantage, and it will be fun to see these heavyweights collide.
So, will Schaub continue his climb up the heavyweight ladder, or will Mitrione prove to have too much power and defeat Schaub in dramatic fashion?
