A lightweight match was originally scheduled between Bobby Green and Abel Trujillo, but Green has pulled out of the bout due to unknown reasons. Now, it appears Jamie Varner will step in and face Trujillo, which should be just as exciting as the original bout. Both of these lightweights are coming off wins, and they have the chance to set themselves apart from the rest, especially if they can finish in spectacular fashion. Varner comes into this bout looking to make a statement, and if he can survive and dominate a guy like Abel, he sets himself up for bigger fights in the future. Varner is coming off a controversial split decision loss to Gleison Tibau, so he will need to get an impressive win to get himself aligned with the elite in the division. Varner has always been an exciting lightweight, using his dominate wrestling and speed on the feet to defeat his opponents. He will need to get things going quick, maybe even taking this fight to the ground, if he wants to beat Abel. Abel is coming off one of his best performances, especially inside the UFC, against Roger Bowling. From the very beginning, Abel was out to prove that he was the better striker, and he certainly did so. He landed some viscous strikes on Bowling, who was not able to recover. Abel will be looking to keep the fight standing against Varner, making this an exciting fight to watch. It should be a competitive lightweight bout, where the winner takes a huge step up in competition in the lightweight division. Jeremy Green is a MMA and NFL contributor at RantSports.
