Why Are More People Not Talking About Dennis Bermudez?
There was a point where I almost boycotted the featherweight division. It was because I was watching the UFC embedded series and sure enough, more than half of the episode was dedicated to showing Conor McGregor. The guy wasn’t even fighting on the card and he was getting press off of it. I understand that when the UFC believes they have a star on their hands, they need to promote him or her. However, there is a fine line between promoting someone and shoving them down my throat.
Right now, the featherweight division is a source of unbelievable talent, and with every class that is full of killers, there is one that is out of the spotlight, silently racking up wins. That person is Dennis Bermudez. He is currently on a seven-fight win streak; please read that statement again, because it is amazing.
Right now, Bermudez is scheduled to face Ricardo Lamas. Lamas is a former number one contender and is still a very legit threat to the featherweight division. If Bermudez is able to get a win over him in impressive fashion, it would not be out of the question to think that he is one fight away from getting a shot at the title.
However, it is painfully obvious that if you are better at promoting yourself, you will get further. It seems to me that Bermudez is of the “if I win fights, they can’t ignore me” school. I personally love that mentality, but it is not smart for his career. If Bermudez is able to get the win over Lamas, he needs to get on the microphone and call someone out or make a statement.
