“Cowboy” Donald Cerrone is one of the most laid back and relaxed MMA fighters today. Days before an upcoming bout, your average mixed martial artist is fine tuning their preparations. Cerrone, on the other hand is enjoying his personal hobbies which include surfing, wake boarding, bull riding and many similar extreme sports. However, he soon knows when to switch from crazy fun guy to one of the deadliest kickboxers and submission specialists on the planet.
Cerrone has had an outstanding 2014 and has been rightfully named as one of the nominees for fighter of the year by multiple different publications and organizations. Since losing to Rafael dos Anjos in the summer of 2013, Cerrone has gone on a five fight win streak with two submission finishes and two head kick finishes. In 2014 alone he’s overcome extremely strong opposition in the hyped up Brazilian Edson Barboza, Jim Miller and most recently he defeated UFC newcomer Eddie Alvarez by unanimous decision.
His next opponent lies in the undefeated young gun Myles Jury, who owns a perfect professional record of 15 wins and no losses. With “Cowboy” in an exceptional state of mind and in the best form of his life, he will be the first fighter to defeat Jury. On the ground, Cerrone is more precise and has far more experience grappling and submitting tough opponents. As well as his kickboxing being second to none in the UFC, Cerrone will prove to be superior in both the stand up and grappling departments. With victory, Cerrone deserves to be granted a title shot, and he could well become the UFC’s next lightweight champion.
