Jon Jones is on the path to becoming the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. The way he graces the octagon and tears opponents apart with his electrifying and unique style, as well as his championship status, will forever be remembered in the sport. He is now the most successful light heavyweight champion in UFC history and is also on his way to becoming the most decorated champion of all time. However, despite his many accomplishments and future goals, on January 4 at UFC 182, he faces his toughest challenger to date in Daniel Cormier.

Many fans and publications believe that Jones’ reign as king of the division is coming to an abrupt end in January. However, one of the main reasons why Jones will overcome Cormier is the simple fact that he’s faced tougher and more well rounded  MMA fighters in the past, and he has easily dismantled them at will. His youth, coupled with his championship experience and bundles of skill, will prove too much for Cormier.

Still at the age of 27, Jones has 21 professional fights with 20 victories with his only loss coming via an extremely controversial disqualification. Of these 20 wins, he has nine via knockout, six via submission and five going to a decision. He holds notable victories over former UFC champions in Shogun Rua, Lyoto Machida, Rampage Jackson, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort. Jones has only been pushed to the limit once, by Alexander Gustafsson, but in all other fights he has both dominated and finished opponents in style.

At UFC 182, we will see the same hungry and passionate Jon Jones. One who will look to beat Cormier at his own game, which in this case, is wrestling. Jones will want to make the point that he can both take Cormier down and also defend being taken down. Jones will throw his accurate elbows and kicks with confidence, and in the process, will prove to be the better fighter and comfortably defeat Cormier.
