Everyone in the UFC wants a piece of Conor McGregor these days. Now if only they would make that walk to the Octagon …

And yet another dream of a superfight goes up in smoke. With lightweight champ Rafael Dos Anjos being the latest slated McGregor opponent to pull out on the eve of the clash (this time due to a broken foot), the UFC is now forced to yet again come up with a late replacement for the featherweight champ’s debut at 155 pounds.
Fortunately for both the promotion and the fans, there are at least two good options to salvage the fan excitement already built up for the event.
The first of these is Donald Cerrone, fresh off a win at welterweight against Brazilian Alex Oliveira. In true Cowboy fashion, he’s already apparently called for a fight in the coming Anderson Silva–Michael Bisping card or UFC 196.
Just spoke to @Cowboycerrone. He said he’s happy to fly to London or Vegas next. Best part? He’s serious…

This would be a fun fight, except for the fact that, well, like every other time Cowboy has done this … the guy just fought. This time, it’s at a different weight class too, so he’d have to cut back down to 155 in just a couple of weeks. Cerrone would probably be able to make the weight for the payday, but he won’t necessarily be in prime form to put on a show. Still, there’s no doubt he’s high on the list of potential replacements.
The better choice here is Stockton’s Nate Diaz, who may or may not have foreseen this situation:

The case for McGregor-Diaz is fairly straightforward. For one, this was already a fight many fans clamored for when Mystic Mac announced he’d be moving up to 155. Diaz himself is coming off an impressive win against contender Michael Johnson, and while two weeks is a relatively short time for the smack-talking to get ramped up, you can bet that Diaz and McGregor would make the promotion for this fight easy for Zuffa.
Most importantly, of course, the Diaz brothers always show up on fight night.
It’s not the most difficult matchup for McGregor by a long shot (that would probably be either RDA or Frankie Edgar), though Diaz is a fan favorite who always looks to engage his opponents in exciting ways. Perhaps a major payday against McGregor would be just the thing to resolve his grievances with the Reebok deal and his UFC contract.
Plus, I mean, this guy actually called it:
