2012 Senior Bowl Practice Recaps
Chuck Cook-US PRESSWIRE

There were 3 days of Senior Bowl practices prior to Saturday’s game.  There were 5 players who impressed me on those 3 days.

Senior Bowl Day 1 Recap

Stock Up

Devier Posey Wide Receiver Ohio State Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 6th Rounder Devier Posey looked good in one on one drills.  Posey probably will still be a day 3 pick due to character concerns.  Posey showcased his intangibles with size, hands, route running, and jumping during Monday’s drills.

Marvin McNutt Wide Receiver Iowa Now a 2nd Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Marvin McNutt wowed NFL scouts on Monday with his route running.  The 6 foot 4 215 pound Iowa Hawkeye cemented his status as a top 100 pick with Monday’s Senior Bowl performance.

Kendall Reyes Defensive Tackle  Connecticut Now a 2nd Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Kendall Reyes took Wisconsin offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler to school.  I am really becoming more impressed by Reyes intangibles.

Mike Martin Nose Tackle Michigan Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Mike Martin got the best of Buckeyes center Michael Brewster once again.  Martin owned Brewster in the Ohio State VS Michigan rivalry.  Martin continued to dominate in this game.

Cam Johnson Defensive End Virginia Now a 2nd Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder I originally listed Cam Johnson as a 4th round talent before bumping him up to a 3rd rounder.  Johnson has impressed down the stretch, and it really would not surprise me if Johnson went in the first two rounds.

Stock Down

Donnie Fletcher Cornerback Boston College Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Donnie Fletcher struggled on day 1.  Fletcher may not go in the top 100 with his sluggish performance on Monday.

Leonard Johnson Cornerback Iowa State Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 2nd Rounder Leonard Johnson should still be a top 100 pick.  Its just a matter of whether Johnson goes in round 3 or round 2.

Michael Brewster Center Ohio State Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Michael Brewster struggled during the first day of Senior Bowl drills.  There is some uncertainty about Brewster being a top 100 pick at this point.

Devon Still Defensive Tackle/3-4 Defensive End Penn St 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Devon Still could have been a first round pick if he attended the Senior Bowl.  Still opted to skip the Senior Bowl and left me with the wrong impression.  Still did not impress me down the stretch despite what the stats say.  I know this may sound premature, but I got Still graded out as a 4th round prospect.

Alfonzo Dennard Cornerback Nebraska Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 2nd Rounder Alfonzo Dennard is a man coverage corner only.  Dennard cannot zone cover period.  I think more NFL scouts are coming to this conclusion after watching him during Senior Bowl Week.

Senior Bowl Day 2 Recap

Stock Up

Shea McClellin Defensive End/3-4 Outside LInebacker Boise State Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Shea McClellin can play against left tackles or right tackles.  Baltimore and Pittsburgh both spoke to Shea McClellin about being a 3-4 outside linebacker which speaks high volumes about his game.

Brandon Weeden Quarterback Oklahoma State Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 5th Rounder Weeden was dominant on day 2 of the Senior Bowl.  Weeden showcased his intangibles addressing some questions I had with his accuracy.

Casey Heyward Cornerback Vanderbilt Now a 2nd Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Casey Heyward dominated in coverage on day 2.  The only assignment he missed was a play where Juron Criner made a sick catch on day 2 which may have been the play of the week.

Will Blackwell Guard LSU Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 7th Rounder Will Blackwell was mainly listed as a right guard.  Blackwell showed versatility to play left guard or right guard during Senior Bowl week.

George Ikola Safety Boise State Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 6th Rounder I viewed Ikola as a late round pick heading into the season.  Ikola’s size and versatility to play strong safety or free safety may intrigue some teams.

Stock Down

Chris Polk Running Back Washington Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 2nd Rounder I raved about Chris Polk being the best running back after Trent Richardson.  Polk did not impress during day 2 of Senior Bowl drills.

Kellen Moore Quarterback Boise State Now a 6th Rounder Previously a 5th Rounder Kellen Moore continues to struggle during Senior Bowl practices.  There was hype that Moore had elite Peyton Manning intangibles.  Moore has great intangibles, his mental skill set and accuracy is no where near #18′s.

Terrance Ganaway Running Back Baylor Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Ganaway looks like a 5th round pick.  There are a lot of uncertainties about whether Ganaway is a running back or a fullback.

Cyrus Gray Running Back Texas A&M Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Cyrus Gray’s injury in 2011 really cost him a shot at being a top 100 pick.  Gray is going to be a day 3 pick.

Jared Crick Defensive Tackle/3-4 Right End Nebraska Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Jared Crick is not a top 100 pick.  Crick has not convinced me he can overcome his early injury at Nebraska.  Crick could be a day 3 steal if he can overcome his injuries.

 Senior Bowl Day 3 Recap

Stock Up

Cordy Glenn Offensive Tackle/Guard Georgia Now a 1st Rounder Previously a 2nd Rounder Cordy Glenn showcased some impressive pass blocking against quality pass rushers.  Glenn is a 6 foot 5 347 pound offensive lineman.

Glenn can play on either side at offensive tackle or guard.  Glenn lacks the footwork.  Glenn could really excel in the NFL as a starting guard in a run blocking scheme.

Marvin McNutt Wide Receiver Iowa Now a 1st Rounder Previously a 2nd Rounder Marvin McNutt continues to impress with his route running.  I am not ruling out a late first round option as a possibility.

Mitchell Schwartz Right Tackle California Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 5th Rounder Mitchell Schwartz is a pure right tackle.  Schwartz could be an early day 3 pick.

Juron Criner Wide Receiver Arizona Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Juron Criner made a ridiculous catch on Tuesday.  Criner’s route running displayed more consistency on Wednesday.

Brandon Weeden Quarterback Oklahoma State Now a 3rd Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Weeden had another dominant practice session.  Weeden is displaying elite intangibles down in mobile with his decision making.

Stock Down

Kellen Moore Quarterback Boise State Now a 7th Rounder Previously a 6th Rounder Kellen Moore had another bad practice on Wednesday.  It really would not shock me if Kellen Moore went undrafted.

Chris Polk Running Back Washington Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder Polk struggled again on day 3.  Polk could re enter the 3rd round conversation by winning Senior Bowl MVP honors.

Bruce Irvin Defensive End/3-4 Outside Linebacker West Virginia Now a 4th Rounder Previously a 3rd Rounder I loved Irvin when the season started.  Irvin could be a 3-4 pass rusher.  I thought Irvin could play 4-3 and 3-4 when watching his junior tape.  Irvin seems like more of a 3-4 pass rusher.

Ryan Steed Cornerback Furman Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Ryan Steed missed some assignments during Senior Bowl drills.  Steed looks like a 5th round talent at this point.

Trumaine Johnson Cornerback Montana Now a 5th Rounder Previously a 4th Rounder Trumaine Johnson has the size at 6 foot 2 215.  Johnson also has versatility to play cornerback or free safety.  Bucky Brooks thinks Johnson could be the Dominique Rodger Cromartie of the 2012 NFL Draft.  Johnson needs a strong senior bowl game just to make a case for being a top 100 pick.
