Danica Patrick might have been right all along. She needed to be racing in NASCAR full time in order to be good. In her first race since going full time in the NASCAR Nationwide series she has qualified her no. 7 Go Daddy Chevrolet for the pole for the Daytona race. She is the first female pole winner since 1994 when Shawna Robinson won the pole. This is the best way for her to get respect and credibility from the other drivers. This can lead to drafting partners. Drafting partners are needed to win races at Daytona and Talladega.
“All of a sudden I am the experienced one in the Nationwide series” Danica said. She will lead all the drivers to the green flag on Saturday and those drivers that want to go fast will be wanting to team up with her. She is sending notice that she fully intends to contend for the Nationwide Series Championship this year. Starting on the pole and getting noticed will help that immensely. Danica said “I want to come back to Daytona every year just to get good here”. It looks like that plan is working. “It is going to come down to bump drafting, keeping engine cool, swapping, staying with partner when pitting.”
By winning the pole Danica Patrick will now be a car to watch this Saturday in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. If you can’t get to Daytona, watch the race on ESPN Saturday at 1:30 PM ET.
