Trevor Bayne May Not Race Bristol This Weekend
Trevor Bayne, the winner of last year’s Daytona 500, is not entered in this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Even though the American economy seems to be picking back up there are still signs that are disturbing. The number 60 Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) car missing the race is one of them. Roush Fenway Racing ran Trevor Bayne in the No. 60 NASCAR Nationwide Series without a sponsor for the first three races of the season in hopes of attracting one. They still do not have a sponsor for Bristol as of this writing. This is very unfortunate because Trevor Bayne has demonstrated that he deserves a ride and that he could serve a sponsor well. It is not often that a driver who is fourth in standings misses a race.
This is also a bad indicator of our economy in other ways. The Number 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford has a rich history in the NASCAR Nationwide series. It was the championship car in 2002, driven by Greg Biffle and 2007 driven by Carl Edwards. It was also the winning car in the Owner’s Championship driven by Carl Edwards last year. This car has been in the top 5 in Owner Points in the Nationwide Series for the past eight years, ten of the past eleven to be more exact. Loosing this team will be a big blow to NASCAR and its competitors.

Update: It is being reported that at the last minute the number 60 car was added to the Entry List with a Sponsor of Lally Horse Stables. Without additional sponsorship they will be in the same position for the next race.
