Redemption at Phoenix was just the beginning for Denny Hamlin. The win three weeks ago was the first glimpse of Hamlin getting back into the championship contender that he once was in the 2010 season.
After Hamlin lost the championship in 2010, he hit a slump the following season and only won one race. He failed to dominate at tracks were he had stellar performances before. The 2011 season was not Hamlin’s year but a crew chief change would be the spark for the 2012 season.
In just four races in Hamlin finished in the top five at Daytona. He is currently in the top five in the driver standings, and has had two top fives so far.
Heading into Fontana this Sunday, Hamlin will start from the pole. He will lead the race in the front row along with his Joe Gibbs racing teammate Kyle Busch.
A win and a pole in five races brings back the Denny Hamlin who dominated before.
