An offseason can make a difference, just look at Michael Waltrip Racing. Prior to the 2012 season MWR made several moves and deals in hopes of prosperity.
Clint Bowyer, Mark Martin and Brian Vickers joined the team, just a few of the changes that arrived. Just this past Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway all three MWR cars finished in the top five. Martin Truex Jr along with Vickers and Bowyer all took third, fourth, and fifth place finishes.
Truex is continuing of a good race finish streak since coming off the 2011 season. In just four races Truex has had a top-5 finish along with two top-10’s. He is averaging a top ten finish in the first part of the season.
Meanwhile Vickers joined MWR to run selected races, Bristol was one of them. The race at Bristol was Vickers’ first for MWR were he dominated a good portion of the race. He led 125 laps, the second most led in the race, ending with a top five for his first of few races.
After four races MWR has its drivers within the top 20 in the standings. Both Truex and Bowyer are in the top ten at fourth and eighth and Martin is in 17th. Vickers’ first start has him just out of the top 35.
Heading into Fontana MWR is looking good after their run in Bristol.
