Juan Pablo Montoya Wins The Pole At Watkins Glen For Second Consecutive Pole

Juan Pablo Montoya will get another opportunity to bring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series field to the green flag for a second week in a row.

Montoya finished on top of the field during the Cup Series qualifying session at Watkins Glen International. With a spped of 127.020mph, Montoya knocked Kyle Busch off of the pole. Busch will join Montoya on the front row for the green flag on Sunday. Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, and Marcos Ambrose also qualified into the top five for Sunday’s race.

Montoya has previous road course experience and won the race at the Glen back in 2010. He broke the track record on Saturday with his qualifying lap in 69.438 seconds. Kyle Busch held the record he set last year at 126.421mph in 69.767.

The pole win at the Glen comes a week after Montoya won the pole at Pocono.

Heading into Sunday’s race Denny Hamlin and Jeff Burton will race in back up cars. Both drivers wrecked their primary cars in Friday’s only practice . Hamlin will start 23rd and Burton will start in 31st.

Rounding out the top ten are Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr, and Jamie McMurray.
