Joe Gibbs Racing No.18 Sprint Cup team of has been penalized by NASCAR following the race weekend at Michigan.
NASCAR announced on Tuesday that the No.18 team has been penalized for infractions to the NASCAR rulebook, during the race weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The No.18 team was found in violations of Sections 12-1, 12-4J, and 20-2.3A.
During Cup Series practice Saturday August 18th, the No.18 Toyota Camry of JGR was found to have action detrimental to stock car racing, as stated in section 12-1 of the NASCAR rulebook. The No.18 team also violated 12-4J, any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event des not conform to NASCAR rules. The car was also found in violation of 20-2.3A, improperly attached weight.
Penalties were issued around the No.18 Sprint Cup team of Joe Gibbs Racing. Crew Chief Dave Rogers was fined $25,000. Car chief Wesley Sherrill was also placed on probation along with crew chief Rogers, until October 3.
No point reductions were made to Kyle Busch, who drives the No.18 or to car owner Joe Gibbs in driver and owner championship points.
Busch finished 13th at MIchigan in the Pure Michigan 400.
