Danica Patrick will have a new team member guiding her to the finish line in the remainder of the 2012 NASCAR season.
It was announced Tuesday by Fox Sports that JR Motorsports has decided to make a crew chief change for Patrick in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Throughout the 2012 Nationwide season, Tony Eury Jr., has been Patrick’s crew chief when she races in the No.7 Go Daddy Chevrolet.
Taking over as Patrick’s new crew chief will be Ryan Pemberton. According to Fox Sports Eury Jr. was told that he would be relieved from his duties with the No.7 team on Monday. Earnhardt confirmed the replacement in a statement.
Prior to working at JR Motorsports, Eury Jr. was also Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports.
Pemberton recently joined JR Motorsports about a week prior to becoming Patrick’s new crew chief. Pemberton become the new director of competition as JR Motorsports and Tony Eury Sr. parted ways. Eury Sr. had been the director of competition, his release was part of the changes of the team’s new direction.
Despite not finishing off the season on top of the No.7 pitbox, Eury will still be part owner of the organization along with Earnhardt and Kelley Earnhardt-Miller.
In the past Pemberton has been a crew chief. Before the closure of the Red Bull Racing team, Pemberton was one of the crew chief for the two car team.
Prior to the crew chief change and after the Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway, Patrick currently sits just outside the top ten in points, in 11th.
