Kyle Busch will start the NASCAR Food City 500 from the pole position. He broke the track qualifying record that was set in 2003 by Ryan Newman. Kasey Kahne will start second followed by Denny Hamlin third, who also beat Ryan Newman’s record.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 17 Ford lost an engine if practice on Friday and will start the race from the back of the field. David Ragan in the No. 34 will also have to start at the back because they changed an engine.
With 43 cars on this ½ mile track look for the cars at the back of the field to get lapped and be one or more laps down early in the race. This is not good for Danica Patrick (41st), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (32nd), and Ryan Newman (31st). It is not unusual for over half the cars to be one or more laps down at the end of this race.
Bristol Motor Speedway is the only speedway on the circuit where pit road is split into two. Half of the pit stalls are on the front stretch with the other half on the back stretch. During green flag pit stops drivers enter and drive down only ½ of pit road. When pitting under green drivers drive down both halves of pit road so that those pitting on the front stretch do not have an advantage.
Kyle Busch won the 31st Annual Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway, in a door to door finish with Kyle Larson. Can he sweep the weekend winning both races? He is the last driver to do so in August of 2010 when he won all three races.
The race is 500 laps or 266.5 miles. If you can’t get to Bristol Motor Speedway the race is Sunday March 17th at 1 PM ET on Fox.
