It’s been 16 years since the tragic accident at Daytona that claimed the life of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., and it’s been that long since the No. 3 car had reached victory lane as well.
But at the Coca-Cola 600, the grandson of Earnhardt’s car owner, Richard Childress, brought the iconic No. 3 back the winner’s circle in style, as Austin Dillon claimed the checkered flag in Charlotte.
The scene was something to behold, as cars around him ran out of gas on the final lap of the race.
Fumes carried Dillon to an emotional scene in victory lane.
This was one of those moments that will live on in history no matter how many more times Dillon takes the checkered flag in the No. 3 car.
