BOSTON- Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers in a recent interview made his shooting guard rotation be known for the up coming NBA season. Doc let the world know that new comer Courtney Lee would be the starter and coming off the bench would be fellow new comer Jason Terry. This rotation set by Doc is not only not a surprise, but the right move for the Boston Celtics.
Jason Terry was signed by Boston to come off the bench and be the scoring sixth man that the Celtics have lacked for the past few years. Terry can give the Celtics the kind of microwave offense that can get the bench scoring numbers way up and keep Boston’s offensive game going once the starters go to the bench for a breather. Terry has spent most of his career coming off the bench and is comfortable in that role. One must also realize like most great sixth men do, the fact is that just because a player does not start a game does not mean that he will not finish a game. I believe Terry will be finishing a lot of games for Boston as they will be looking for added scoring punch down the stretch and Terry is a great clutch fourth quarter scorer.
Courtney Lee is the perfect compliment to Terry. He can start a game and provide some solid shooting and defense. By playing with the other starters, Lee will know his job of knocking down the open shots. Lee is not dumb enough to think that he will be hoisting up shots like a drunken sailor with offensive focal points Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Paul Pierce on the floor with him. Lee also does not need to play a ton of minutes despite starting as he has never been a guy that got a lion’s share of minutes or needed to be a focal point of an offense. Lee knows his job is to a fill a role and I believe he will excel in this role as complimentary player for Boston much like Eddie House did during his stint in green.
The Celtics may have lost out on Ray Allen, but they replaced him with pieces that fit better. Terry can fill the void happily that Allen was not suited for due to his excessive pride as scoring six man off the bench. Lee can come in and play with the other starters and not feel the need to be the focal point of the offense or complain that he is not getting his shots. These facts mean Boston got a lot better this offseason and this rotation at shooting guard is a big reason why. Look for Doc to use these guys perfectly as the season unfolds. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!!
