The Indiana Pacers have announced the signings of center Luke Nevill and guard Ben Hansbrough as new additions to their training camp squad. Both are signed under training camp contracts.
Nevill was a star back in college, playing for Utah in 2009. There, he was the Mountain West Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Since then, the 7-2 center has bounced around, playing in the NBA D-League along with going overseas in Russia and Australia.
Ben hopes to make the team where it features his brother, Tyler Hansbrough, who played a key role as the team’s backup power forward to David West off of the bench. Ben did well in college at Notre Dame, where he won Big East Player of the Year. Ben hasn’t gotten a real shot at an NBA roster, as he’s been playing in Europe ever since then. However, being apart of the team’s summer league this year, he’s got a chance.
Sadly, I really don’t see any of these two possibly making it. Hansbrough is a close one, but with guys like Sam Young and Sundiata Gaines, who are both much more experienced, competing against these two, it’ll be tough. Indiana is going to have to make a couple of cuts.
The best bet I see for Nevill and Hansbrough is probably playing in the D-League and maybe getting called up sometimes for the Pacers. We’ll see what happens.
Best of luck to these two.
