The Miami Heat have had a summer full of celebration and lacking any persecution or did not hear any negative feedback for their stellar end to the season. They have flown under the radar and have not received the buzz of the new look Los Angeles Lakers nor have they been overly aggressive to “fix” holes in their roster like the New York Knicks. Miami will walk into training camp with a calm and accomplished demeanor.
Yet this may be a cruel summer for LeBron James.
In a society of prisoners of the moment and people who tend to overreact all the praising of James for winning just one NBA crown can cause anything he does from this point on to be less impressive if his second championships does not come in the near future.
James had a great year of basketball and elevated his game to heights of Michael Jordan in 1992. But he is not Jordan. He is not nearly as a good free throw shooter, clutch player, and still does not bring the heart of a champion that Jordan had before he won.
In other words James can fall off. He has climbed to the top of the basketball world and has now the title for being the best basketball player in the world but if his team is unable to repeat that will all dissipate.
James has evolved as a player so much throughout his career that it’s difficult to fathom that he won’t get better but based on his past and the super teams being built it is very possible.
How will King James attempt to muster up the hunger he had for ring one, during the grind and fight for the possible rings that follow?
Many are so eager to comment on how good a player he can become but so hesitant to admit that there are a handful of players who were able to win multiple championships while being the end all be all for their teams.
The crowning of King James may hurt his legacy if his prime is cut short due to a loaded Lakers team, a hate driven Boston Celtics and an experienced Oklahoma City Thunder.
