BOSTON- The Boston Celtics got some surprising news that veteran point guard Keyon Dooling was retiring and thus leaving the team without a veteran backup point guard. Of course the NBA rumors started swirling about who the Celtics were interested in to fill that recently voided position. The latest round of NBA rumors have former nemesis Derek Fisher on Celtics team President Danny Ainge‘s radar. The rumor of Fisher donning green may seem bizarre, but the move makes a lot of sense for both sides.
The fact is the Celtics could use a veteran point guard to round out the roster. This veteran must know that his role would be minimal depending on how much time starter Rajon Rondo needs to rest and injuries factoring in to the Celtics point guard rotation. The veteran guard would also have to be a great veteran leader and locker room presence to help fill the void left behind by Dooling. A bonus for the Celtics would be if the man can also knock down big shots. Fisher brings all of these attributes to the tableland thus would be a perfect fit for Boston.
Fisher has always been a leader everywhere he goes. The calming presence and leadership that Fisher brings to the table was sorely missed in the Los Angeles Lakers locker room last year after the Lakers dumped the veteran. The Lakers loss was the OKC Thunder‘s gain as the veteran guard would provide solid leadership for the young Thunder as they fought there way out of the Western Conference. Fisher also showed leadership was not a lll he brought to the table as he hit some big shots for the Thunder like he did for the champion Lakers.
The move would make sense for Fisher as well. Fisher has not drawn a lot of interest from contending teams. The veteran is still without a home and the NBA season is just around the corner. If Fisher wants to play basketball for a contender than Boston seems like his best option to do so.
Revenge might also be a great motivator for Fisher to sign with the Celtics. Fisher iss till rumored to stinging from the Lakers dealing him last year. What better way to get back at LA than to sign with the hated Celtics.
The bottom line is Fisher wearing the home Celtics uniform would be a very weird sight. Fisher has hit so many dagger shots as a Laker against this Celtics team that it would take some getting used to. However, I got a good feeling that Fisher would be a fan favorite quickly. The simple possiblity of Fisher guarding Kobe Bryant in a big moment during a Celtics and Lakers game or Fisher nailing a dagger shot wearing green instead of purple and gold would be priceless. I hope this rumor is true and Fisher is signed by Boston because this is a perfect fit for both parts. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!
