It’s been a frustrating season for the Los Angeles Lakers as they continue to be one of the biggest disappointments of the regular season with a 17-22 record and one of the main reasons why they’ve struggled so much has been due to Dwight Howard. Of course, the frustration continued for Howard and the Lakers on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors in which the center was ejected from the game after receiving two technical fouls–which he certainly deserved.
Howard can say what he want about the play in which he received the second technical, but it was clear he took some-sort of jab at Alan Anderson as a way to defend himself. What makes this situation even more frustrating to deal with is the fact that Howard was ejected in the first half and only finished the game with five points–which obviously didn’t give the Lakers much help with in the loss.
Expectations were high for Howard when Los Angeles acquired him from the Orlando Magic during the offseason, but it’s safe to say he’s been nothing but frustrating and disappointing so far during the regular season. Say what you want about his recovery from back surgery–the fact is that Howard is just struggling to fit in as a member of the Lakers and it’s difficult not to wonder if the team would be better off without him.
The fact that Los Angeles wouldn’t even be in the playoffs if the season were to end today shows what type of season it’s been so far and it should be interesting to see what happens with Howard over the rest of the regular season and whether or not the Lakers will regret trading for the big man.
