It’s that time of year where NBA rumors begin to swirl like crazy with the trade deadline quickly approaching on February 21. Numerous teams are expected to make moves to help improve team needs to finish out the 2012-13 regular season on a positive note, but it appears the Oklahoma City Thunder may be holding on to one player–Eric Maynor.
The point guard was originally expected to be shipped before February’s deadline, but now–it appears Maynor will most likely stick with the Thunder instead for at least the remainder of the season.
Obviously, this is one of those moves where it doesn’t seem like there will be much of an impact considering Maynor averages less than 12 minutes per game for the Thunder, but anything is possible when it comes to the NBA. In other words, Oklahoma City never knows when they may need another point guard if something were to happen to Russell Westbrook down the road–so it would be an obvious choice to hang on to him for now.
As for the rest of the Thunder team, they’re still holding strong and looking like one of the top teams in the Western Conference with All-Star Weekend right around the corner. As long as Westbrook and Kevin Durant are healthy, this team is always going to be a contender and there’s no question this team will use last year’s success of reaching the NBA Finals as motivation to get back there again this year.
