Greg Monroe Showing Flashes Of Brilliance At New Position For Detroit Pistons

Greg Monroe has been showing lately he seems to blend in nicely to the power forward position with the Detroit Pistons.

Monday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, in a 109-101 Pistons’ NBA victory, Monroe had one of his best games in recent weeks with a solid 37 minutes. He was 10-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the line, for 27 points, brought down 16 rebounds and had four steals. Monroe also had only two turnovers, which was very encouraging since he’s had a few games with more than that.

A week ago in a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Monroe was 10-of-18 from the floor and scored 23 points while bringing down eight rebounds. He’s had four assists in three straight games. He’s been averaging 16.1 points, 9. 6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

“It doesn’t matter where Greg (Monroe) is out on the court,” Pistons guard Will Bynum told reporters after Monday’s game. “Greg plays the game the right way; he has a high basketball IQ and he shares the basketball. No matter where you put him at, he’s going to be effective.”

He’s slightly improved overall from last season, but his numbers have gone up since he moved to power forward to allow Andre Drummond to take over at center.

Monroe is one of the keys to the Pistons’ future, and to see him contribute consistently in a major way is a good sign for the franchise. He improved significantly from this first season to his second. This being his third year, he hasn’t seen as much improvement, but the key now is for Monroe to be as consistent as possible.
