Kevin Durant Will Not Go For Scoring Title Tonight Against Milwaukee Bucks

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The last day of the NBA season is upon us. Despite nearly every playoff spot being clinched and locked, there are some very intriguing story lines heading into tonight.

The first is the potential for the Chicago Bulls to either drop down to the sixth seed or remain at the fifth seed. This really isn’t that much of a story, as the Bulls are taking on the Washington Wizards, who are going to be a lottery team. This should be an easy win for the Bulls.

The second is the race for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers control their own fate tonight as they take on the Houston Rockets. They can either win and get the seventh seed, or they could lose and potentially get bounced out of the playoffs barring a win by the Utah Jazz. That is the most important story line, but the most exciting is the scoring title.

Tonight the Oklahoma City Thunder takes on the Milwaukee Bucks in their season finale.

The big storyline coming into this game was Kevin Durant’s chances at the scoring title. However, Durant decided to take the last night of the season off.

Would he have scored 70 tonight to win it if he did play?

I don’t think he would have. It is extremely hard to score 70 points in any game, but it is even harder to score 70 with Russell Westbrook on your team. Durant would have to get the green light from everyone, including Westbrook. Westbrook would have needed to get his shots, and he isn’t going to get a lot of them up.

I think it was a smart decision for Durant to rest tonight. He wasn’t going to play for anything but the scoring title, which was a long shot anyways.
